DEAD END

In March 2004 Toonspeak presented the gritty drama DEAD END by Letizia Russo. We toured to Gilmorehill G12 in Glasgow for one night as part of the Shell Connections Youth Theatre Festival 2004.  DEAD END was also performed at the Lyceum in Edinburgh, marking Toonspeak’s first performance outwith Glasgow in many years.

DEAD END tells the story of a community of young people who live deceiving themselves and their community under the power of Sirius, whom, in their eyes, is a new God. The play uses black humour to highlight themes of sarcasm, pity, identity and its challenges.

Being  invited by Lyceum Youth Theatre to take part in Shell Connections, was a testament to Toonspeak being recognised as a vital part of the young people theatre community in Scotland.  Dead End brought together a vast range of participants, including asylum seekers, unemployed young people and school attenders, adding to the play’s running theme of diversity.
