Founded in 1987, toonspeak young people’s theatre or TYPT, has a long history and an excellent reputation for providing creative opportunities for young people in North Glasgow.

toonspeak differs from traditional youth theatres as we are young people led, with participants providing their opinion on all major decisions, including writing and developing productions, staff recruitment and budget control.  Our talented members are our core strength and many have gone on to have successful careers in television, stage and plays.

We have produced a long list of shows including classics such as Bugsey Malone, Abigail’s Party, and The Cripple of Innishman, as well as developing our own shows, such as 2005’s huge production, Pictures in the stars and 2006’s sell-out Trans Global Airways

In 2001 toonspeak was awarded a Scottish Urban Regeneration Forum Award for best practice in using the creative arts as a catalyst for regeneration and/or breaking down the barriers to social inclusion.   In 2005 we achieved our Investor in People status and also won LearnDirect’s Learning Employer of the Year.

20 years on and we’re going from strength to strength.  Long live Toonspeak!
