2006 was the year Toonspeak went global! Trans-Global Airways is Toonspeak's largest production to date and took place in a purpose built marquee in Springburn Park in August 2006. Young people from all over North Glasgow rehearsed for 2 weeks to morph into efficient cabin crew, leaders of far away lands and reprehensible villains and then put on 5 performances in the marquee.
In October 2006 the group were invited to re-mount Trans Global at the Promote YT National Festival of Youth Theatre in Perth.
Residential
Toonspeak takes a ferry trip! As the residential for Pictures in the Stars was so much fun we decided to do it again for TGA. This time we all headed off to the Isle of Arran for the weekend.
Show Development
Day Working with the director and other professional artists cast members worked on producing the basic plot and script outline for “Pictures in the Stars”.
Poster Day
Young people from all of Toonspeak’s weekly workshops worked with a professional designer on producing the image for all the publicity for the show.
Design Week
The idea of Design Week is to develop the design ideas for the show. This involved young people working on the set and costume design for the show as well as making props.
Music Week
Young people spent a week creating the score for the show. They worked with professional musicians and youth workers to develop this.
Marketing Sub-Committee
The office staff at Toonspeak couldn’t really be bothered doing anything for the show so we even let the young people do the marketing. They were given the budget and decided on what formats to put the advertising in and where posters and postcards where to be distributed.
