| In August 2005 Toonspeak took local audiences to the stars! Created and performed by the people of North Glasgow "Pictures in Stars" was a visual spectacle involving original music, projection, movement and spoken word based on the themes of astronomy, constellations and young people's dreams and aspirations for the future. |  |
This project was very unique; we created a temporary dome in Royston Park and performed "Pictures in the Stars" in it 5 times.
The Residential
What better way to start a show than a weekend away! As part of the devising process for “Pictures in the Stars” 14 young people (and some adults) went off to explore the wonders of Loch Lemon. They stayed in a big fancy house (the one that was in Take the High Road, if any of you remember that), played drama games, skimmed stones and generally had a great time.
Poster Day
Young people from all of Toonspeak’s weekly workshops worked with a professional designer on producing the image for all the publicity for the show.
Show Development Day
Working with the director and other professional artists cast members worked on producing the basic plot and script outline for “Pictures in the Stars”.
Design Week
The idea of Design Week is to develop the design ideas for the show. This involved young people working on the set and costume design for the show as well as making props.
Music Week
Young people spent a week creating the score for the show. They worked with professional musicians and youth workers to develop this.
“All of the staff and the cast put in so much energy and effort into this production, it was a major success and I have now been made famous by people asking for my autograph and asking me ‘was I in that show we acted out in the Dome in Royston?’”
