Toonspeak Young People's Theatre

About Us

Toonspeak Young People's Theatre (registered charity number SC022150) has been providing high quality, free drama and theatre activities for young people aged 11-25 living in Glasgow for 25 years.

We work with professional artists who challenge and inspire young people to create their own performances and manage their own projects - all of our work is young people led.  We never hold auditions and provide free transport and refreshments for participants and local audiences to ensure that there are no barriers to taking part.

Our regular activities include:

Theatre workshops: running weekly and holiday workshops across different areas of the Glasgow. Our Gallery page has pictures and videos from our last term of workshops.

Productions: helping young people to create their own large-scale shows from scratch.

SPIRE is a creative employability project designed to help young people aged 14+ from Royston explore different career paths, gain qualifications, increase confidence and have fun .You can sign up for every course, get your Arts Award or just come on a trip that takes your fancy - it's up to you!

“We believe in the potential of young people and the power of imagination.  Through working together we will achieve great things”

North Glasgow is one of the most socially and economically deprived areas in the UK. With high levels of unemployment, ill health and addictions and very poor educational attainment. The young people growing up in the area have less opportunity to succeed than young people living in other areas. Toonspeak strives to bridge that gap by offering free accessible opportunities for self improvement and self discovery to all young people living in the area.

By empowering young people with real skills, creativity and the opportunity to have a meaningful input into the running of Toonspeak, we help young people to become more make confident, ambitious and active in their community. The arts provide a much needed escape and outlet for fun, laughter and enjoyment. They celebrate identity and diversity and provide a platform to explore complex issues.

“Before I came to Toonspeak I was really shy and self-conscious.  Now I make sure I talk to anyone who's new to the group and make them feel welcome.” Courtnay, 15, Balgrayhill
