Toonspeak Young People's Theatre (registered charity number SC022150) has been providing high quality, free drama and theatre activities for young people aged 11-25 living in North Glasgow for 25 years.

We work with professional artists, who challenge and inspire young people to create their own performances and manage their own projects - all of our work is young people led.  We never hold auditions and provide free transport and refreshments for participants and local audiences to ensure that there are no barriers to taking part.

Our regular activities include: 

*  Theatre workshop programme: running weekly and holiday workshops across different territorial areas of the North

*  Production projects: allowing young people to create their own large-scale shows from scratch

*  Decision Makers: we train young people in skills like negotiation, planning and leadership and support them to organise an event or represent other young people on our Members Forum or Board of Directors

*  Positive Creative: creative events management placement schemes, action research and consultation projects helping young people to increase their all round employability

*  Next Generation of Theatre Makers: supporting young people to create their own theatre, run their own workshops learning skills specific to the world of creative arts, including applying for their own funding and managing their own projects.

North Glasgow is one of the most socially and economically deprived areas in the UK. With high levels of unemployment, ill health and addictions and very poor educational attainment. The young people growing up in the area have less opportunity to succeed than young people living in other areas. Toonspeak strives to bridge that gap by offering free accessible opportunities for self improvement and self discovery to all young people living in the area. 

By empowering young people with real skills, creativity and the opportunity to have a meaningful input into the running of Toonspeak, we help young people to become more make confident, ambitious and active in their community. The arts provide a much needed escape and outlet for fun, laughter and enjoyment. They celebrate identity and diversity and provide a platform to explore complex issues.
