Tall Ship Tales
In Summer 2008, Toonspeak set sail for exciting new lands with our most ambitious project to date - Tall Ship Tales! This wonderful 4-month project worked in partnership with the S. V. Glenlee, also known as the Tall Ship, at Glasgow Harbour, and culminated in a large-scale devised theatre production which took place in a fabulous, purpose-built theatre space in Cowlairs Park. Here's how it all happened...
Marketing Committee
The Tall Ship Tales marketing committee kick-started all the hard work on the project back in April 2008, and were a super-productive group. The committee made all the important decisions on advertising for the show, as well as choosing the design for the wonderful poster & flyers, and even helping to hand out leaflets at all sorts of local events! The committee's hard work was rewarded when more than 500 people came to see Tall Ship Tales over its 4-day run!
Residential Weekend
12 keen young people left for Culdees Bunkhouse in Perthshire in June 2008 for a weekend of drama, development, lovely food and sailing!! The residential weekend gave the production team lots of ideas for the show, and they pulled together a plan incorporating all the elements that captured the imaginations of the young people.
A mix of historical fact, superstition and myth sprinkled with a healthy dose of imagination and fantasy, Tall Ship Tales was one of our most eclectic shows to date. Click here to see a slideshow of photos from the residential!
Show Development Day
Despite some stormy weather, our Show Development trip to the Tall Ship was a great day out, with a guided tour of the Glenlee, a Tall-Ship-fact treasure hunt, and the story of the Glenlee's very own ghost!
Design Weeks
Our committed design week participants helped to deisgn the look of the show and make props and costumes, as well as working on animation that was used in the final production - and even wrote and recorded a pirate boyband song!
