Toonspeak Young People's Theatre
Young People's Committees

Each term we have a young person led committee.  The committee has a specific project with it’s own budget.  The young people are in charge and at least 2 staff members support them.

These committees help build confidence, essential life skills as well as skills that will help your chances of getting a job, like managing a budget or negotiation.

Coming up this term, the Journalism Committee and Christmas Cabaret Committee, email heather@toonspeak.co.uk or speak up in your weekly workshop if you would like to be involved.

Here’s the committees that have happened over the last few years:

Summer 2009 - Fundraising Committee

This year's marvellous fundraising committee worked extremely hard to raise money for Toonspeak's Summer Week of Fun: writing letters to local businesses, raising money on a sponsored fancy dress walk, and compiling the biggest tombola and raffle that North Glasgow has ever seen!  Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to all those who donated their time and money to help make the project such a success.

Summer 2008 - Marketing Committee

A really productive group - this year our committee made all the important decisions on advertising for our summer show, Tall Ship Tales, as well as choosing the design for the wonderful poster & flyers, and helping to leaflet for the show!

Summer 2007 - Fundraising Committee

This super dedicated group came from the ‘Challenge Toonspeak’ Easter Project.  They ran a ‘donate a quid bid’ and organised the sponsored fancy dress walk which raised lots of money for the summer show.

Spring 2007 – Website Committee

A small group of YP’s who looked after this lovely website being created.  They had a whopping budget of over £5000 which they spent on a website designer, a lap top and a digital projector.

Autumn – Cabaret Committee

Since 2005, this group have organised the Christmas Cabaret where all the weekly workshop groups come together to perform a short piece and then we have a party after. This festive committee decide everything that happens at the event - decorating the venue, selecting the music and entertainment, and even deciding what gets served at the yummy Christmas buffet!

“If the committee don’t do it, or they don’t ask the staff to do it, it doesn’t get done.  The staff don’t secretly change everything when the young people go home!”
